“Onto the white left panel — the white of world silence — I center a black domed form, the door of a crematorium oven. Severe. Architectonic. I add earth to the paint to make the surface crumbly. Dry. Charred matter. Death…. the right panel on which I paint a vessel — plump, paunchy, with exuberant gestures and splatters — Life. I adhere a narrow strip of canvas to the far edge of the right panel — the mute Witness.”
